The U.S. is the only industrialized nation that does not guarantee healthcare for everyone. Democrats told you that Obamacare was a great step forward, but it primarily enriches insurance and pharmaceutical companies while patients struggle to afford care. We already spend the most, per person on healthcare, yet our system leaves tens of millions out, disproportionately hurting the poor and minorities. On top of that, tens of millions of people have health insurance, but still can’t afford out-of-pocket costs. Good health should not be a luxury that’s reserved for the privileged. After 17 years in practice, I started fighting for a single-payer healthcare system. In 2009, I led a successful effort to bring single-payer legislation to the floor of the U.S. Senate. To Democrats and Republicans, the tens of millions of people who don’t have access to healthcare are acceptable casualties of a system that puts profits over people. Now they are promoting a public option, really a profiteer’s option, to take patients who need care off the books of the private insurers. Don’t be fooled down that false path. I’m the only candidate who will fight for an Improved Medicare-for-All health system that provides complete coverage, cuts costs and puts people’s health over profit.
